EASL 2025 – 60 Years of Innovation in Hepatology

 

The 60th EASL Congress, held in Amsterdam and streamed globally, brought together over 7,600 participants, presented more than 1,900 abstracts, and launched five new clinical guidelines, reaffirming its position as a leading global forum in liver health.

 

The Opening Ceremony sent a strong message: science must drive action, especially in the area of alcohol-related harm. A high-level panel featuring EASL leadership, WHO Europe, and public health experts marked the launch of the European Alcohol Health Alliance, a significant milestone for policy collaboration across Europe.

Romanian hepatology was prominently represented in key scientific sessions:

Romanian faculty were also involved in hands-on teaching within the EASL/EFSUMB Skills Learning Centre, especially in:

  • FibroScan® Training

 

Poster Presentations

 

Romanian Hepatology research teams contributed six accepted posters, showcasing clinical and academic strength:

  • 3 from Fundeni Clinical Institute
  • 2 from Iași
  • 1 from Cluj

RoALD – Romanian Association for Liver Diseases

 

A major milestone was the scientific and institutional presence of RoALD at the congress:

  • Networking: Strengthened European partnerships
  • Recognition: Highlighted RoALD as a model for professional society engagement at the European level

 

Patient Representation: A United Voice

 

Romania was also represented by Marinela Debu, President of APAH-RO. Her presence underscored the essential role of patient organizations in shaping the future of hepatology in Europe.
